Position Open: Sopa Choling Coordinator

 
Role and Responsibilities:

-Schedule, Create, and Facilitate retreats, workshops, and programs that support the Abbey’s unique culture. Shambhala, Kagyu, Nyingma, and Monastic, ventures should be the priority. 

-Act as a liaison for communication between the Gampo Abbey Governance Council (GAGC) and residents to Sopa Choling projects. 

-Report to and work collaboratively with the Gampo Abbey Operations Manager on any capital improvements, hiring, and financial matters related to Sopa Choling.

-Work with the Gampo Abbey Head of Monastic Life when inviting staff, volunteers, etc. and on marketing initiatives for Sopa Choling to ensure alignment with the overall vision of Gampo Abbey. 

-Manage a budget related to income and expenses for Sopa Choling. 

-Responsible for working collaboratively with individual event coordinators to determine staffing needs, food, and event supplies, including costs.

-Responsible for pricing facility rental or service provisions for each and all Sopa Choling events.

-Relate to visiting teachers’ needs at Sopa Choling when on land.

-Create a functioning Sopa Choling headquarters at Shedra House. 

-Provide Sopa Choling event attendee’s/staff/teachers clear guidelines and boundaries related to Gampo Abbey main building and land. (Hiking, Silent periods, internet use, etc.).

-Keep the 5 precepts and communicate these clearly and ensure that all teachers/staff/guests at Sopa Choling hold the 5 precepts throughout their stay.

-Update calendars and the Gampo Abbey community re: start dates, closing dates, etc. related to events at Sopa Choling. 

 

Skills required:

  • Previous experience living and working in a dharma practice community
  • Ability to engage in 4 hours or more of daily meditation practice
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a culturally and linguistically diverse community

 

Compensation:

  • Monthly stipend

  • 4 weeks annual leave
