2017 Year of Living Fearlessly January 4 to September 29, 2017

The Year of Living Fearlessly monastic residency ended with a celebratory event – each resident give a short dharma talk and then received a letter from the Sakyong, a certificate of completion and a Gampo Abbey pin.

Other Activities

On the Abbey Road

Life at Gampo Abbey in 2017 featured the Year of Living Fearlessly.

Here are some photos and notes about a few of the activities which were part of the life of the community.  More to come as new events and activities take place.

Canada Day Ball Game

Abbey community takes over the Pleasant Bay fire truck

Once again despite many hours of practice by the Abbey’s softball team, the Pleasant Bay Volunteer Fire Fighters came from behind and went on to win our annual community softball game.  The weather was perfect, the community on both sides of the field were uplifted and joyful.  Another memorable day for all concerned.

Lobster Release

Chonyid with soon to be liberated lobster

Following a long standing tradition, the Abbey purchased the last catch of lobsters from Herman Timmons a fisherman from Pleasant Bay, loaded them onto Captain Mark Timmons whale watching boat, sailed along the coastline in front of the Abbey and returned the lobsters back to the Gulf of St Lawrence where they had been caught earlier that day.  This continues a long standing tradition established by our Abbot Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche.  Releasing animals, sentient beings, who are facing death is seen as a particularly beneficial activity.

A Bountiful Garden Enriches and Supports the Community

Here is a selection of photos taken of the garden.  It has been a particularly bountiful year for the Abbey’s vegetable garden as you’ll see from the photos.

Summer Volunteers

The Abbey community has been enriched by the support of many volunteers this summer.
