Gampo Abbey is supported primarily by individual donations. The cost of maintaining and repairing the Abbey is high. You can assist the Abbey at any time by making a monetary gift in Canadian or U.S. funds as a one-time, yearly, monthly or periodic donation. All donations are sincerely appreciated and are tax deductible.

We welcome donations for specific projects in 2010, including:

• Support for life monastics $12,000 - provides funding for medical and dental needs as well as travel costs to dharma programs for the life monastic community.
• Annual lobster liberation $2,000 - helps pay the costs to purchase and release of the end of year catch of lobsters from a local Cape Breton lobster fisherman.
• Major maintenance building projects $5,000 - helps with the costs of renovations for making a washroom wheel chair accessible for an elderly monastic and $4,000 for repainting of the exterior of the Abbey.
• Fire Safety Renovation Fund $30,000 - provides for the 2nd year of a three program to improve the fire safety of the Abbey. This year's focus will be to install a fire alarm system and a fire exit from the third floor men's dorm.
• Three Year Retreat Scholarships provide financial support for those who need assistance to complete the three year retreat offered at Sopa Choling - covers up to 25% of the annual fee.
• Lisa Hillard Memorial Trust provides up to an additional 25% of the annual fee for a three year retreatant beyond what is available through the Three Year Retreat Scholarship.
• Shedra Monastic College Scholarships $1,500 - provides support for Abbey residents in financial need to participate in the Abbey's Sheda (advanced Buddhist study program). The Shredra operates on a cost recovery basis, the fees pay for teacher's travel and stipend. Gampo Abbey monastics who teach Shedra courses are not paid.
• Unrestricted - $70,000 - up to 50% of the basic operating costs of running the Abbey are covered through the support of our patrons and supporters.

We hope the Abbey continues to inspire those who have supported us in the past and those who are newly taking an interest in our desire to build Western Buddhist monastic tradition and an enlightened community.
